![]() ![]() A partial or complete cover is no longer enough, but the difference in height must also be taken into account. Additionally, the developers at Relic Entertainment have really taken care to keep the mission objectives as minimal as possible and still provide you with interesting side quests.Įven in the third part, the positioning of your units rapidly affects their lifespan. The unique maps are beautifully variable and superbly structured vertically. They await you in occupying airports, destroying coastal guns, rescuing the crews of downed planes and other well-known pastimes of military strategies.Īnd this is where Company of Heroes 3 excels. ![]() Missions take place on unique maps, which are mostly historically significant cities such as Salerno, Naples or Foggia. Basically, however, clashes are divided into two types: firefights and missions. As soon as there is a clash with an enemy company, or a siege of a protected city, Company of Heroes 3 turns into the classic real-time strategy as we know it intimately.ĭepending on what kind of company you attacked with, you don a British or American uniform and take on the tactical coordination of infantry, motorized howitzers, guns and tanks in real time. Your units have a limited movement zone each turn and can only attack once. As the campaign progresses, each move requires more and more thought, and thus the game maintains the great and addictive “one more move and that’s enough” formula that is very familiar from other turn-based affairs. Your fighters, scout planes and bombers are torn to shreds by anti-aircraft defenses, while infantry are weakened by densely planted machine gun nests and howitzers. Cities are more fortified, so it takes several turns before you can even conquer them. The march on Rome is much more reminiscent of the Total War series.Īs you move north from Calabria, leaving liberated Italy behind, Axis resistance also tightens. On the general mapĪ massive campaign through the Apennine Peninsula, capturing villages, managing and improving companies, bombing fortified positions, ambushes, building supply nodes and sometimes some difficult decisions await you. That doesn’t change in Company of Heroes 3, but the entire campaign for the Allied liberation of Italy gets a completely new dimension – a strategic map. The previous installments of Company of Heroes were never strategies with a large number of soldiers and complicated production chains, they always played explosive clashes of smaller groups of specialized units and military equipment. In the historical context of the Second World War, we move south to the Mediterranean, in two diametrically opposed campaigns. And right at the beginning I can tell you that it is an excellent sequel, and maybe even the best part of the series. Friends in arms, it’s here! After almost ten years, one delay and several playable alpha versions, Company of Heroes 3, the sequel to the famous series of strategy war, rolls onto the screens with the crushing power of the Panzer tank. ![]()
